Support us

As a charity, we rely on support from visitors and other individuals, trusts, foundations, public organisations and the corporate sector. This support helps us achieve our mission: to inspire all to explore and enjoy the arts, heritage and outstanding places we care for by visiting our museums and by participating in a wide range of activities.

You can help support the places you love by becoming a Friend of Lakeland Arts, by donating or giving some of your time as a volunteer. Explore the options below:

Saving Raven

Launched in 1871, cargo boat Raven    has a had a long  life on the lake. Built to take supplies to remote locations when the only means of transport was horse and cart over bad roads, during winter Raven was also an essential ice-breaker for passenger steamers.

In 1922, competition from road transport meant the end of Raven’s time as a cargo boat and it was sold to Vickers Armstrong for testing mine-laying equipment.

In the 1950’s, the abandoned Raven was rescued by Windermere Steamboat Museum, founder, George Pattinson, and was subsequently used as a summer bunkhouse for water skiers.

Now, 150 years old, we’re raising £50,000 to restore Raven’s deck in 2022 and you can help!

£15 will buy half a metre of decking timber

£10 will buy 8 deck fastening bolts

£5 will buy 250 grammes of oakum and tar to use as plank caulking materials

Inspired by Raven’s story? Make a contribution to its restoration by donating via the contactless donation box outside of the Conservation Workshop at Windermere Jetty Museum, or support us on our JustGiving page. You can also email development@lakelandarts.org.uk, if you’d like to find out more about other ways you can support!

Leave a legacy

You can help to build the future of Lakeland Arts and our venues by leaving a legacy or bequest in your will. Leaving a legacy helps us to plan and secure our future with confidence and educate and inspire future generations through our work.

Every gift, whatever the amount, will help us to promote world-class art and heritage, care for and develop our permanent collections, conserve our museums and Grade I listed buildings and offer exciting and innovative programmes that involve local people.

Anyone can leave a legacy to Lakeland Arts. You may wish to support us with the residue (percentage) of your estate once all other gifts have been made, with a targeted or specific gift of money, or even a work of art. You may wish to leave a legacy to support Lakeland Arts in everything we do, or something more specific. Whatever you choose to support will be extremely important to our future work.

If you would like to talk to us to discuss your plans in confidence, email Caroline Gilbert, Head of Development or call 01539 888048.
