The Story Of Shamrock and Her Times
£8.50
Professor Victor T C Middleton OBE FTS.
The author of this booklet, Victor Middleton, loved the Lake District and had lived locally since the early 1990s. Sadly Victor passed away in August 2018. During his life he has was a highly respected and distinguished academic consultant and author in the field of tourism, that culminated in him being awarded an OBE in 2005. He was particularly interested in sustainable development and helped to launch the Tourism Society which he chaired for a number of years. Outside of his professional career he was a man of boundless energy and enthusiasm for various interests and leisure pursuits, in particular he loved travelling and exploring in his motorhome, walking, driving sports cars and motorbikes, and sailing. His total zest for life belied his advancing age and he was an example to us all. He loved boats of any kind, and the restoration and preservation of the steamboat Shamrock was a heritage project that was bound to capture his interest. The combination of a fascinating engineering project, and the conservation of this classic Windermere steamboat, was a project that he was delighted to get involved with, appealing to many of his passions. With his marketing and tourism experience Victor offered to help with the promotion of the project to support fundraising for the ongoing maintenance of the vessel. This booklet is part of Victor’s legacy, and we are very grateful to acknowledge, with sincere thanks his authorship of this booklet.
