Get hands on with these creative workshops for children and families
This half term Windermere Jetty Museum and Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house are running creative drop-in activities for children and families. The activities are included with admission to the attractions. Each attraction offers an annual pass, so you pay once and can visit as many times as you like across 12 months.
POW! Surreal Storeys is a workshop where you will create a collective comic strip with an underwater theme. Dress up, strike a pose and get a polaroid taken which will join the story. The workshops take place in the learning centre between 11-4pm every day from 25-29 October. It is a drop in activity and you can stay as long as you like. Entry to the museum is included so you can attempt to crack the Codebreaker puzzle and have a look at the Beatles inspired comic exhibition Yellow Submarine, with illustrations created by comic artist of The Simpson’s fame Bill Morrison. This exhibition is part of Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
CliMART offers a cosy ‘protest’ space where you can make a handstitched badge or printed zine about climate issues. It is suitable for all ages, including adults. You can also look round the whole house and explore the new exhibition Cumbrian Blue(s) by ceramic artist Paul Scott who focusses on the impact of industry on the Cumbrian landscape and beyond. The CliMART activities take place 25-26 October between 11-4pm and they are drop-in.
There is a bright spacious café at Windermere Jetty Museum with a child’s menu and Blackwell has a cosy tea room offering lite bites, soup and cakes. Both attractions have plenty of parking for visitors.
