A special display conceived by some of the world’s leading artists and designers lands at Windermere Jetty Museum this week – giving a range of new audiences the chance to have their say on four major public art proposals being suggested for the West Cumbrian Coast.
The event is part of a wider coastal improvement project to shine the spotlight on this largely undiscovered stretch of coastline, called ‘Deep Time – Commissions for the Lake District Coast’. There will be a series of live talks where members of the public can speak directly to some of the artists and find out more about the inspiration they have gathered from West Cumbria’s varied coastal landscapes.
The Deep Time’s Landmark Artwork display runs from Thursday 20 October until Sunday 20 November and is free to view. It features designs, models and films developed by globally renowned names including:
- Icelandic–Danish artist Olafur Eliasson with internationally best-selling author Robert MacFarlane
- British contemporary artist Roger Hiorns with Tom Emerson (6A Architects)
- Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf’s team including Thomas Piper, Nicolas Becker, Lex Bronze AI, vPPR Architects, Emanuele Coccia and AMI
- Former Turner prize-winner Rachel Whiteread
