Mini Anti Racist Cumbria summit at Windermere Jetty Museum, brings together Cumbria Museum Consortium partners to help make our county the first anti-racist one in the country.
Yesterday, saw Windermere Jetty Museum abuzz with activity. Our senior leadership team and some of our trustees, joined those from Cumbria Museum Consortium partners Tullie House and Wordsworth Grasmere, to participate in the most widely attended CMC gathering to date.
What was the occasion you might ask?
We were honoured to host to an Anti Racist Cumbria mini summit, with co-founders: Janett Walker, CEO; Sophia Newton, Communications Director; and Kelly Pearce (Digital & Ops Manager); along with six more members of their team.

The mini summit explored the means to tackling and ending racism within our workspaces and cultural and heritage institutions, by extending our knowledge around what anti racism means, changing perspectives and working towards making our spaces more welcoming to all.
There was shared sense from the attendees of how valuable this experience was in developing a deeper understanding of anti racism, from both personal and organisational perspectives.
Thank you to the team at Anti Racist Cumbria for facilitating such a successful day. Our senior leadership left feeling very motivated to stand up and be part of Anti Racist Cumbria’s vision of ‘Making Cumbria the UK’s first anti-racist county.’

This October is Black History Month, and the theme this year is ‘Time for change; Actions not words’.

We’re celebrating and honouring Black History Month, look out for content on socials over the month. We’ll be sharing the two Charmaine Watkiss acquisitions we received earlier this year and have a very inspiring video filmed in September with London-based collective, Space Black. The collective was founded by an interdisciplinary team of young black engineers, architects, urban planners and artists, and two of their team, Heba Tabidi and Rayan Elnayal ran workshops at Windermere Jetty Museum over the summer.
