Kendal Community Theatre and The Clifford Consort present Lady Anne Clifford – A Picture in Words and Music, a dramatic concert inspired by ‘The Great Picture‘, Lady Anne’s diaries, and scenes from Caroline Moir’s play ‘Lady Anne Clifford, a Woman Cast Out’.
Blending theatre with live period music, the performance brings together dramatic moments from Lady Anne’s life with music she may have once have known, from the Elizabethan and Jacobean composers of her youth to the expressive works of William Lawes, court composer to King Charles I. Performed on period instruments and inspired by the world Lady Anne inhabited, this atmospheric evening offers a rare opportunity to experience music and storytelling within the historic surroundings of Abbot Hall.
The performance features acclaimed lutenist Richard MacKenzie, one of the country’s rising stars of the British lute scene, alongside Dr Andrew Fowler, tenor of Durham Cathedral Choir. Together with Kendal Community Theatre and The Clifford Consort, they will perform music on instruments similar to those Lady Anne herself would have encountered.

Elizabeth Dodd – viols, recorder

Andrew Fowler – viols, voice, recorder

Philip Gruar – recorders, renaissance flute, viols, smallpipes

Richard MacKenzie – lute, recorders, baroque guitar
Expect a theatrical performance which fuses dramatic scenes from Lady Anne’s life with music of the period, played on period instruments.
