Steaming Up Experience

Join us behind the scenes and experience Windermere’s boating heritage in a truly hands-on way with our Steaming Up Experience aboard Osprey, a beautifully restored 1902 Edwardian steam launch.

Working alongside our experienced skippers, you’ll help bring Osprey up to steam before heading out for a leisurely tour across Windermere.

From the warmth of the boiler to the unmistakable scent of coal and engine oil, witness the Sissons compound engine as it stirs into life aboard a historic vessel. This immersive half-day experience offers a rare glimpse into the world of Edwardian steam travel and maritime engineering.

After helping prepare the boat, you’ll embark on a trip across the lake, with the chance to admire the surrounding fells, valleys and regional wildlife. This experience also includes lunch in our Lakeshore café and entry to the exhibition galleries
