Windermere Jetty Museum
Join us for a summer of inspiration and hands-on fun. From creative making workshops to interactive displays, conservation talks and adventure trails, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.
In the museum you’ll discover the newly refreshed Microworld digital play space. This immersive sensory experience invites you to explore intricate ecosystems and understand the impact we have on these tiny worlds. It’s a captivating way to learn about the environment and our role in it- plus it’s lots of fun!
For hands-on creative activities, have a go at using child-safe tools and eco-friendly materials to make something spectacular. Build elaborate structures, create whimsical creatures, or design intricate models. The possibilities are endless and it’s all up to you!
Discover the fascinating world of boat building and the natural wonders of England’s longest lake through our interactive displays and trails. Spanning throughout the museum and out into the lakeshore meadow, we invite you to get into the spirit of adventure. Pick up your trail guides from the front desk and embark on a journey full of learning and fun.
Following a day of exploration, why not enjoy an English Lakes ice cream by the lake or tuck into a delicious lunch in the Lakeshore Cafe – we have a family friendly menu for any fussy eaters! Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome outside and in the cafe.
Abbot Hall
Explore rooms full of intriguing faces, fascinating stories and connections to nature. With local and renowned drawings, paintings and photography, there is plenty to be inspired by at Abbot Hall this summer. Dive into our creative self-led activities and grab a copy of our new family art activity guide at the reception desk to get the kids inspired to engage with and create art.
From Barbara Hepworth, Lucian Freud and Joan Eardley to local artist Lela Harris – there are countless narratives to discover in our Collection Galleries. Have a go at using our interactive tablets to delve into the captivating stories behind each piece of picture. In the galleries upstairs you’ll find Charmaine Watkiss: Legacy, a new exhibition of empowering drawings exploring the deep-rooted connection between people and nature. Upstairs you’ll also discover Claude Cahun: Beneath this mask, an investigation into identity and landscape through self-portraiture (on until 3 August).
Channel your creativity by sketching, doodling, and expressing your unique artistic responses in our collective visitor sketchbook. Be inspired by our current exhibitions and discover other visitors’ interpretations of the historic and contemporary art showcased at Abbot Hall.
Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house
Let the architecture of the Arts & Crafts house, its stunning interiors and the Sublime Symmetry: William De Morgan exhibition inspire you. Share your creative responses in our community sketchbooks, from doodles and sketches to creative writing, fill the pages with your ideas.
Explore the magic of symmetry and shapes in our current exhibition of 60 exquisitely designed De Morgan ceramics.
Look closely and find the animals hidden all over Blackwell! Can you help Baillie the Blackwell dog find them all? Pick up a trail guide from the front desk to embark on your adventure. As well as this, we invite you to get creative with our self-led Arts & Crafts inspired activities.
