This July, two of Lakeland Arts heritage museums are included as venues for this year’s Lake District Music festival.
Lake District Music festival, which is taking place from 26 July – 4 August, will bring to life performances in many of Cumbria’s favourite cultural venues including buildings of stunning architecture such as Holker Hall and Cartmel Priory and the natural landscape of Grizedale Forest.
On 29 July, the lakeshore attraction Windermere Jetty Museum, will be showing ‘Space Adventures’. Storyteller Liz Fost will take younger visitors on an adventure through stories myths and legends told with the accompaniment of music and songs from pianist Neil Brand at Beyond the Sky. There will also be opportunities for families to get their creativity flowing and craft an alien puppet. Performances will be shown at 11am, 2pm and 3.30pm. The 11am show will be available in British Sign Language (BSL) in association with Cumbria Deaf Association.
Nick Hardisty, Operations Director for Lake District Music, says “Classical music is something everyone should have the chance to enjoy, that’s why we’ve created a series of family events at Windermere Jetty Museum, Barrow Library, Kendal Town Hall and Grizedale Forest. Mixing concerts with storytelling, making spaceships and puppet aliens and experiencing their first mini-opera, there’s so much for little musical explorers to get their teeth into.”
The festival showcases the next generation of exceptional talent, featuring some of the most promising and dynamic artists in the early stages of their careers. Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house in Bowness-on-Windermere, will be hosting a performance by violinist Savva Zverev on 31 July. Rising star Zverev, will be performing the timeless music of Paganini 24 Caprices for Solo Violin Op.1, supported by Andrew Winter.
Music lovers will be entertained by all types of musical styles at the festival, from jazz and gospel to chamber music, string quartets and brass bands. Venues are spread across the Lake District, as far south as Cark and Cartmel, through to Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, Ulverston, Windermere and up through to Ambleside and Grasmere.
