Running across the summer holidays there are workshops for children and families taking place at Lakeland Arts’ venues Windermere Jetty Museum and Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house.
The workshops run daily from Tuesday to Saturday. Each week offers a different type of activity inspired by STEAM learning – where science, technology, engineering, arts and maths come together. Young people can try traditional letterpress printing to make modern day protest signs, build LEGO mosaics and 3D models, or discover how to make soundscapes. There are action packed theatre and dance workshops, creative writing and zine making. Families are invited to unleash the power and versatility of collaging to tell stories and explore the design of maps, cities, landscapes and utopias.
All these activities are part of the ‘Something to Say’ series which has been developed by Lakeland Arts and a diverse range of invited artists, architects, educators and engineers. Come along to experience inspiring workshops by: Blue Balloon theatre company, socially engaged art group Bolton Contemporary, C-STEM director Fran Ward, The Knotted Project theatre company, sound artist Simon Whetham, London based collective Space Black who advocate for a diverse and socially inclusive approach to design, RagTag Arts based outside Kendal, Solway Coast based printmaker Vega Brennan and Lakeland Arts own MEND and CLIMart teams.
The workshops are included in the price of admission to the attraction: £4.50 for a child aged 5-15 years, free for ages 0-4 years and £9 for adults. Most activities are drop-in and suitable for all ages, but some are for 7-15 years or have limited spaces. Booking online to reserve your place is recommended for the letterpress printing, sonic arts and theatre sessions. Lakeland Arts members can bring one child for free with an individual membership and two children with a joint membership.
