We’re excited to announce that Blackwell will reopen the garden and terrace on Friday 17 July for tea, cakes and bakes. With its beautiful views over the lake and Coniston Fells, the garden terrace will be open between 10am-4pm on all fine weather days.
Just five-minutes’ drive from Bowness-on-Windermere, visitors can relax in the grounds of a rare-architectural gem; a perfectly preserved Grade I listed building designed by M.H. Baillie Scott and one of the UK’s finest examples of the Arts & Crafts Movement. With beautiful decorative flourishes and a tranquil setting, Blackwell is a place that never fails to inspire.
Blackwell Terrace launches with delicious bakes, soups, ice creams and a selection of hot and cold beverages. Visitors are encouraged to check the website (blackwell.org.uk) before visiting as opening times will be weather dependent. The house remains closed and is expected to reopen later this summer.
Chief Executive Rhian Harris said: “We are delighted to welcome visitors back to Blackwell. Before the house reopens later this summer, our visitors will be able to see the garden in full bloom and relax in its beautiful surroundings.
“We’re keeping a close eye on government advice to ensure the safety of our visitors when they arrive, with social distancing measures in place and enhanced cleaning regimes.
“We will continuously review our measures in line with national and local guidance as it becomes available and are grateful for our visitors’ patience as we make these essential changes.”
Ahead of reopening, Blackwell will launch a new website (blackwell.org.uk), following a rebrand Lakeland Arts and its cultural venues, formally Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats, Steam & Stories, Abbot Hall Art Gallery and The Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry. The website brings together all Lakeland Arts’ cultural and heritage venues under one platform and features a bold new design, digital access to collections and exhibitions at home, enhanced events pages for planning days out and streamlined ticketing options.
